A well-known Vermont author is celebrating the release of his 25th novel. “The Jackal’s Mistress” by Chris Bohjalian goes on sale everywhere on March 11.”The Jackal’s Mistress” is historical fiction set during the Civil War. Bohjalian told NBC5 News it was inspired by the true story of a dying Union soldier from Vermont who was saved by a Southern woman married to a Confederate soldier. Bohjalian described his latest work as a “Civil War-era Romeo and Juliet story.”Before its wide release, Bohjalian is launching the book tour of “The Jackal’s Mistress” with two events in Vermont this weekend.On Saturday, March 8 at 7 p.m., Phoenix Books on the Church Street Marketplace in Burlington is hosting a conversation with the author and the historian Garrett Graff. Tickets for that event are now sold out, according to the Phoenix Books website. However, the store is still selling signed personalized copies of the new book. You can order those online.On Sunday, March 9 at 4 p.m., Bohjalian will be at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury for a book signing, a discussion with Vermont Public journalist Mikaela Lefrak, and a Q&A session. That free event is hosted by the Vermont Book Shop.
