Local author discusses campaign to fund sci-fi/fantasy anthologies
The Binghamton-based small press Zombies Need Brains, founded by fantasy writer Joshua Palmatier, announces the launch of a Kickstarter project to fund three new science fiction and fantasy anthologies.
“All Hail Our Robot Conquerors!” will feature stories about robots with a nod to the pulp fiction of the 1950s and ’60s; “Submerged” explores the underwater world; and “The Death of All Things” brings together short stories with Death as a leading character.
Contributing authors include New York Times bestselling authors Faith Hunter, Seanan McGuire, Jason M. Hough, and Christie Golden, Hugo Award winner Jim C. Hines, Nebula Award winner Aliette de Bodard, and Prix Aurora winner Julie E. Czerneda. The books will be edited by Palmatier, Patricia Bray, S.C. Butler, Laura Anne Gilman and Kat Richardson. All three anthologies will also have an open call for submissions so that all writers have a chance to be part of the anthologies.
Four Zombies Need Brains anthologies are available now: “Clockwork Universe: Steampunk Vs Aliens,” “Temporally Out of Order,” “Alien Artifacts” and “Were-.” The company will be represented at the science fiction and fantasy convention RoberCon, being held at the Roberson Museum and Science Center on Sept 24-25.
Palmatier is a fantasy writer with a doctorate in mathematics who teaches at SUNY Oneonta. He has eight books currently on the shelves: “The Skewed Throne” (nominated for the Compton Crook Award for 2006), “The Cracked Throne” and “The Vacant Throne” in the “Throne of Amenkor” series; “Well of Sorrows,” “Leaves of Flame” and “Breath of Heaven”; and most recently “Shattering the Ley” and “Threading the Needle.”
