Fundraiser to feature author Rhiannon Navin and filmmaker Kate Way

 

New Rochelle Public Library Foundation’s Cocktails & Conversation, Sept. 13

NEW ROCHELLE – The New Rochelle Public Library Foundation holds its Cocktails & Conversation series, Sept. 13. This year’s event will include a discussion on “Kids, Guns and Schools,” with the bestselling author of “Only Child,” Rhiannon Navin, and filmmaker Kate Way, whose debut documentary “G is for Gun” recently aired on PBS. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Amy Bass, Ph.D., director of College of New Rochelle’s honors program. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. at Alvin & Friends restaurant, 14 Memorial Highway, New Rochelle. Admission is $50 per person and includes two glasses of wine or beer and small bites. Former Dean at Pace nominated to lead Environmental Protection Agency’s Chemical Safety Office

WHITE PLAINS – Former dean of Pace Law’s environmental law programs Alexandra Dunn, was recently nominated by President Donald J. Trump to be Assistant Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency for Toxic Substances (EPA). Dunn currently serves as the regional administrator for Region 1 of the EPA. At Pace Law, she served as dean of environmental law programs from 2007-2010 and taught Environmental Justice and Human Rights and the Environment as an adjunct professor.

In addition to her former role at the Law School, Dunn previously served as executive director and general counsel for the Environmental Council of the States (ECOS). Since 2014, Dunn has assisted state governments in shaping environmental policy and enhancing economic development. Prior to joining ECOS, Dunn served as executive director and general counsel for the Association of Clean Water Administrators.In addition, she has taught at the Columbus School of Law, Catholic University of America, and, most recently, as an adjunct associate professor of law at the American University’s Washington College of Law. 

Dunn received a B.A. in political science from James Madison University and a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law. She is a member of the bar in Washington, DC; Maryland; and New York, as well as the United States Supreme Court.

 

New director of retail at Houlihan Lawrence Commercial Group 

RYE BROOK – Kim Galton is the new director of retail at Houlihan Lawrence Commercial Group and will specialize in leasing, sales and development of retail properties.

Galton, who has 20 years of experience in the retail industry, was previously a commercial real estate salesperson for Princeton Realty Group. In her retail career, she has held numerous management positions including general manager for Lord & Taylor, divisional merchandise manager for Bloomingdale’s flagship store and store manager for Anne Klein New York, and vice president of merchandising for Donna Karan.

Galton earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at Ithaca College.

 

 

White Plains Hospital President and CEO appointed

WHITE PLAINS — White Plains Hospital President and CEO Susan Fox has been appointed to the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Board of Trustees, where she will represent the needs of the region on national healthcare stage, beginning in 2019.

This role complements her new position as chair of the AHA Regional Policy Board 2 (RPB2), which represents healthcare organizations in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Regional policy boards are responsible for providing input on public policy issues and unique regional needs. Prior to being appointed chair, Fox served three years as a delegate to the regional policy board.

Fox who was appointed president of White Plains Hospital in 2013 and president and CEO in 2015, was also recognized as one of the 2018 Crain’s Notable Women in Health Care in August.

 

New executive director at Rockland Independent Living Center’s BRIDGES

NEW CITY – Carlos Martinez is the new executive director of Rockland Independent Living Center’s BRIDGES. BRIDGES is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing leadership, advocacy, and support services to help enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and to promote autonomy in a fully integrated community.

Martinez started his relationship with BRIDGES in 2010 as the assistant director of the PASER program, and most recently served as director of operations, bringing experience and expertise to the position.

Martinez is a licensed master social worker with over 10 years of experience working in Human Services. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Nyack College and a master’s degree from Fordham University.

Rockland Business Association, Oct. 4

PEARL RIVER – Rockland Business Association’s Construction, Real Estate and Development Council will discuss Family Business Powerhouses at the next meeting, Oct. 4. Assistant vice president and branch manager at Apple Bank for Savings

SCARSDALE – Mayra Tepan of Port Chester has been appointed assistant vice president and branch manager at the Scarsdale branch office at 1075 Central Park Ave. Tepan joins Apple Bank from Peoples United Bank, where she most recently served as branch manager of their Yonkers office.

Tepan joined Peoples United Bank in 2012 in Massachusetts and then moved to Connecticut where she spent three years as lead financial services associate in their Greenwich office. Tepan then was promoted to branch manager of the Stamford, Conn. office before moving on to head their Yonkers branch in Westchester.

Tepan joined Peoples United Bank from TD Bank where she had been a Customer Service Representative for two years in Massachusetts. Previously, she worked for J.P. Morgan Chase as a senior teller in their Harrison office beginning in 2004.  Tepan joined J.P. Morgan Chase when the bank was Washington Mutual, and she served as an interim teller while in college.  

Local business owner named to National Small Business Association Leadership Council

MOUNT VERNON – Lynn Karam of LEK Management Inc, was recently named to the National Small Business Association (NSBA) Leadership Council. NSBA is a small business advocacy organization, and operates on a nonpartisan basis. Karam, a leader in the small-business community, joins the NSBA Leadership Council alongside other small-business advocates from across the country as they work to promote the interests of small business to policymakers in Washington, D.C.

Karam joined the NSBA Leadership Council as part of her efforts to tackle the issues facing small business, including tax reform, regulatory restraint, health care costs and how the Affordable Care Act will impact small business. 

New appointments to CoveCenter’s Board of Directors

PUTNAM COUNTY – Attorneys Vincent D’Ambroso and Erina Ponzini have been appointed to CoveCare Center’s Board of Directors. The two are the most recent additions to the governing body of the Carmel-based non-profit that addresses mental health needs, substance use, and social and emotional issues.

D’Ambroso brings more than 35 years of experience in the financial services industry to the Board of CoveCare Center. He currently serves as a business portfolio specialist for the Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union.

In addition to his extensive financial career, D’Ambroso has served as a board or committee member of many organizations in the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors.

Putnam County resident Ponzini has been a partner of Gugliotta & Ponzini, P.C. since 1998. In addition to her legal practice, Ponzini serves on the boards of Camp Herrlich and the Matthew Patterson Parent Teacher Organization.
