NORTH ADAMS — There was already a great deal of existing material about the cartoonist Robert Crumb when author Dan Nadel started writing his biography of the alt-comix founding father.

Crumb’s bawdy and brazen illustrations rose to meteoric prominence beginning in the late 1960s, first emerging in the comic book series Zap Comix and the underground Philadelphia newspaper Yarrowstalks.
