Best new crime thrillers 2026: The new year is full of chilling tales by expert authors

It’s a new year with new books and new crime novels, featuring new ways of killing people! In Ellie Levenson’s Room 706 (Headline Review, €15.99) a young boy might be murdered, but Levinson leaves that presumption to the reader.
What is crystal clear is that happily married mother-of-two Kate and her illicit lover James, also married, should not be in Room 706 in a central London hotel. They’ve been meeting on and off for eight years, purely for sex.
