NCSE’s Branch reviews a new book on evolution education and the law

NCSE Deputy Director Glenn Branch reviewed The Hundred Years’ Trial: Law, Evolution, and the Long Shadow of Scopes v. Tennessee, by Alexander Gouzoules and Harold Gouzoules, for Issues in Science and Technology, a quarterly journal published by the National Academy of Sciences and Arizona State University.

Praising its “insightful and detailed legal history,” Branch particularly appreciated the book’s “remarkably illuminating account of the defense’s arguments on the second day of the [Scopes] trial” as well as its important warning that recent decisions by the Supreme Court have undermined the past legal triumphs for evolution education.
