Louisiana Inspired Book Club discussion with Amor Towles set for June 5 | Louisiana Inspired
For the second quarter Louisiana Inspired book club, we have chosen “Rules of Civility” by best-selling author Amor Towles.
The selected books for the book club represent a combination of fiction and nonfiction — and all, in a variety of ways, prompt ideas or tell the stories of people working toward solutions, keeping in spirit with the goal of Louisiana Inspired. “Rules of Civility” offers the opportunity to read a great piece of fiction and also consider the 110 so-called “Rules of Civility” that George Washington used to practice his penmanship as a teen, which are based on rules written by French Jesuits in 1595.
To be a part of the book club, we encourage readers across the state to go to their local libraries or bookstores, get a copy of the book and enjoy the read. We will post occasional stories about the book between now and June 5 to spur the conversation. To get details and occasional updates, click this link and enter your email: www.nola.com/book_club/
Author Amor Towles’ ‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ has been turned into a TV series which begins March 29 on Paramount+.
We will host a virtual interview with Towles at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, to discuss the plot, characters, twists and turns of “Rules of Civility.” The book tells a story of the power of chance encounters, featuring engaging characters climbing in New York’s social strata in the late 1930s. Louisiana Inspired readers will be able to submit their questions for Towles’ consideration.
