DEAD SKY PUBLISHING offers horror, splatter westerns, and anthologies galore

Dead Sky Publishing has been building a formidable line of books with a reputation for being unafraid to test the limits of its readers.

From the perverse body horror of Dead Inside (which possesses one of the most shocking first sentences in recent times) to the steampunk dinosaur comic Red Range, the publisher has shown a keen interest in setting itself apart from the rest.

Dead Sky is currently tabling at New York Comic Con at booth #2140, showcasing a large selection of books. The publisher’s offerings clearly portray how important its presence has become in comics and prose, especially in terms of genre fiction.

The publisher’s focus on developing its Western Splatter library has truly given it an identity of its own. These books—which include A Savage Breed, Hell’s Cargo, and Cruel Angels Past Sundown, to name a few—embrace all the violence associated with the subgenre, earning its place within the splatter community. A lot of them feature covers by popular cover artist Luke Spooner, giving the books a very gnarly look.

The comic Red Range is currently two issues in, but the Diamond fiasco is forcing the publisher to instead opt for a full graphic novel release slated for later next year.

The book is written by Keith Lansdale and illustrated by Argentinian artist Jok. It follows a man and his son in a strange land where dinosaurs and steam-based ships roam. One day, the man’s son is kidnappe. A map and a mysterious destination put the pair and the people they meet along the way on a dangerous adventure in a very hostile place.

Red Range does a good job of setting up the world and its characters so it can later indulge in all the dinosaur action. In a sense, it really works to build anticipation for the graphic novel. Not giving up on the series is a laudable act that speaks to Dead Sky’s resilience in the face of Diamond’s industry-shaking crisis, not to mention its support of the series and its creators.

If you haven’t yet, give Dead Sky a follow on socials and keep an eye out for more book announcements. If you’re at New York Comic Con, stop by booth #2140 to see their offerings. Horror fans in particular will find a very welcoming home there.
