Directed by horror legends John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper, Body Bags started off as a TV series but was reworked into a three-part movie

The campy flick uses a morgue as a framing device, with Carpenter himself portraying a ghoulish coroner, who serves as Body Bags’ host and narrator. The Halloween director comes off as twisted and entertaining, setting the tone for the film immediately. 

In the first chapter, a gas station attendant locks herself in her booth after discovering a psychopath is stalking her. Despite the straightforward premise, this segment works well due to its clever misdirection and satisfying payoff. 

In the second chapter, a vain man finds his life turning upside-down when his hair grows out of control. It sounds silly but the body-horror element makes this storyline profoundly unnerving.

The closing chapter follows a baseball player, gleefully played by Mark Hamill, who develops murderous tendencies after receiving the eye of a serial killer.

The horror elements aren’t too gruesome, so Body Bags is great for casual viewing. However, purists should have a blast since Body Bags plays tribute to the genre, especially with the horror cameos from Wes Craven, Sam Raimi, and Roger Corman.
