Directed by George A. Romero and written by Stephen King, Creepshow is a masterful anthology in its own right, and also serves as a perfect homage to the ’50s comics of the same name. Whether you enjoy (or hate) zombies, bugs, or aliens, there’s bound to be something here to freak out the most seasoned horror fans. 

What’s impressive about Creepshow is how every person who worked on it gave it their all. Romero’s direction is bold and stylised, using vivid colours, dramatic lighting, and comic book transitions to make every visual on-screen pop. Tom Savini’s practical effects work is equally impressive, striking a perfect balance between grotesque and cartoonish.

All the stars are top-notch, especially Ed Harris and Ted Danson. Leslie Nielsen may be renowned for his deadpan humour in the Naked Gun trilogy and Aeroplane, but he taps into his dramatic roots for his storyline, proving to be a singularly sinister presence.

King’s writing is both playful and unsettling, and his cameo as the hapless Jordy is one of the film’s most memorable and endearing performances.

Though Creepshow has spawned several sequels and a TV series, none can compare to the original movie.
